Brian formed Document Examination Consultants, Inc. in 1987 after working at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Central Forensic Laboratory in Ottawa for seven years. His training in the laboratory included the study of both document examination and counterfeit detection. In 1986 Brian was awarded a Diploma in Forensic Document Examination by the Forensic Science Society of England. In 1989 Brian successfully tested for membership in the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners and completed certification exams through the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners in 1990. Brian is a member of both the Canadian Society of Forensic Science and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Brian participates in continuing education at both the academic and professional level. He was a guest lecturer for approximately ten years at the University of Toronto Continuing Education Department and has been an instructor at the University of Ottawa Law School. Brian has presented several workshops to his peers through the American Board of Forensic Document Examiners and other regional organizations. Brian has conducted research and published papers on the subjects of handwriting comparison, altered documents, mechanical product identification and facsimile transmission examinations. He has written chapters in two comprehensive books on forensic science and is both a co-editor and a principal contributor to the Second Edition of "Scientific Examination of Questioned Documents" published in 2006. In addition, he was a co-developer of the groundbreaking handwriting comparison software Write-On. During his long career Brian has completed thousands of cases and testified in most Canadian provinces as well as in the USA.
